Rustomjee Academy for Global Careers has started its first batch of residential training programme for Assistant Electrician for the Project Affected Households in Palghar district under Income Restoration Plan (IRP) of National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL).

Rustomjee Academy for Global Careers (RAGC) conducted its 6th annual convocation ceremony for Pearson Higher National Diploma students. 86 students were granted diplomas at the convocation ceremony held on 16th November 2019. The ceremony was graced by Mr. Mohit Golui – Vice President, HSE Runwal Group, Mr. Pradip D. Parikh – Entrepreneur and Mr. Anwar Patel – Vice President, Customer Care and Service Honda.
Ganesh K. topped 2017-19 batch of Pearson Higher National Diploma. He has already started his career at Tata Motors as a technician. However, he plans to continue his studies to become an Automobile Engineer. “RAGC faculties were very supportive throughout my program. Their support and several field visits helped me reach where I am today.” he said. Total of 4 students were awarded on this occasion for their excellent performance.
This year, diplomas were granted for 5 specialisation areas, namely Vehicle Technology, Construction and the Built Environment (Civil Engineering), Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Hospitality Management and Business. This diploma is awarded by Pearson Education which is recognized in more than 70 countries worldwide. Few years back when CSR became mandatory in India, the objective of the policy was to generate funds for the benefit of stakeholders – people affected or displaced when an enterprise was set up or expanded its operations. Any infrastructure project paves its way through land acquisition which brings in the monetary compensation with it but in today’s scenario companies are going a way ahead and investing into the communities by doing their bit. MSRDC is doing this by providing vocational training to the youth of these communities and empowering them with sustainable means of livelihood.
Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg is an infrastructure project that will build a fast-track, state-of-the-art expressway connecting Mumbai with Nagpur thereby connecting JNPT to Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport. This super communication expressway will traverse around 392 villages from twenty-six talukas in ten districts, covering five of the state’s six revenue divisions. This project requires large-scale land acquisitions. 16 construction companies will be working on this project for 3 years.
Under Mumbai Nagpur Super Communication Expressway’s (MNSCE) skill development and entrepreneurship component, Rustomjee Academy for Global Careers will provide vocational training to members of these families thereby imparting employable skills among them and helping them earn a living. 120 youth and 3000 construction workers are set to undergo vocational training at 2 new towns in Aurangabad & Buldhana. The training will focus on developing skills for Assistant barbender & steel fixer and Multi skilled technician.
“This expressway project will take 3 years to complete. 16 construction companies and 1000-2000 workers will be working on this project. This will require 500-600 skilled workforce throughout the tenure of this project.” Said Mr. Abhang, Executive Engineer – MSRDC while addressing the beneficiaries.
RAGC is committed to place who successfully complete the training under consideration. After successful completion of training of the said pilot numbers, RAGC will replicate the same in other new towns along the Mahamarg, aiming to train 25000 falling under the purview of the project.
A single day of festive season completely changed the recent slowdown trends in Automobile market in India. The enormous jump in sales of vehicles during festival season are expected to help the auto market recover from the downfall this industry is facing since last 13 months. Automobile market witnessed a 5 to 7% hike in sales as compared to the same festive period from last year.
Mahindra created a new record for single day delivery by delivering close to 13,500 vehicles in 1 day. This figure was substantially higher than the deliveries last year on Dhanteras. Maruti Suzuki delivered more than 45000 cars in a single day of Dhanteras. The single day sales record came after more than 15000 vehicles delivered during previous 10 days between Navaratri & Dussehra.
Second largest automobile manufacturer in India, Hyundai Motors has delivered about 12,500 cars in a single day. Vikas Jain, National Sales Head, Hyundai who is confident the sector will bounce back said, “Compared to last year, the retail is up by 30% approximately on Dhanteras.”
Luxury cars market also witnessed a hike in demand during this season. Mercedes Benz, after delivering more than 200 cars during the Navratri and Dussehra (in Gujarat and Mumbai alone), sold another 600 on Dhanteras across the country. BMW India said its top SUV, the X7, is already sold out for the next 3 months. On Dhanteras, MG Motor India recorded sales of 700 units of its SUV Hector.
Rustomjee Academy for Global Careers witnessed its 6th convocation ceremony for the graduates of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University and the Maharashtra State Board of Vocational Education and Examination. The convocation ceremony held on Friday, 20th September 2019 was graced by Prof. E. Vayunandan, Vice Chancellor, YCMOU. Mr. Pervez Irani, President of YZAD Education Trust and Mr. Kavi Luthra, Vice President of Rustomjee Academy for Global Careers commended students.
Former student of RAGC, Mr. Vaibhav Raut who represented India at WorldSkills Competition shared his experience with students on this occasion. Guest of honour of this ceremony, Mr. Dheeraj Gupta, Founder & CEO of Jumbo King shared his words of wisdom and encouraged students to become an entrepreneur.
The Dahanu campus of Rustomjee Academy for Global Careers, established in 2012, has alumni strength of more than 1500 students. 23 students from International Hospitality Management and Automotive Engineering received their degree. Students met The Right Honourable Lord Paul of Marylebone, where he spent 45 minutes exclusively with RAGC students and offered a few words of advice.
The Rt Hon the Lord Paul of Marylebone, PC, said: “I would like to congratulate the Rustomjee students as well as all the people who are responsible for that university. What a wonderful thing you are doing. Education in India is most important and what they are doing is a great service to the nation.”
Winny Rawal, Head of Transnational Education at RAGC, said: “For them it was a dream come true. They always knew the Chancellor was Lord Paul and it has been really nice of him to share so much of his time interacting with them and hearing their experiences. The students have been here for a week and have been to different places and have seen the University campus in its entirety, including the labs and other facilities. By being over here they get to know how good and how big the University is and they are loving it.”

Skill Development has evolved as one of the most critical threads driving India’s socio-economic progress. For industry competitiveness and for creating a productive workforce, The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship was formed in 2014.
The rapid evolution of technology and innovation are changing the fundamentals of skills needed to thrive in today’s digital era. Newer jobs are being created in emerging areas and this has created a Supply and demand conundrum between Industry and available skilled talent pool bringing forward the need of youth to acquire a new breed of skill sets that will help them leverage the opportunity and maximize their own potential. To drive the skills and proficiency in emerging areas among the masses of India there is a need for a demand-driven approach.
In the recent past, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has undertaken various steps and designed pragmatic schemes to create an industry-friendly skills ecosystem and enable the creation of a skilled & certified talent pool through its on-ground initiatives. The Government of India has been working on a focused approach on Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and has been able to make an effective impact through its various initiatives such as:
- Amended Apprenticeship Act and the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme
- Vocationalisation of Education – both at school and higher education
- Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP)
- Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)
- UDAAN (Special Industry Initiative for Jammu & Kashmir)
With the given background CII organised a Workshop on key skill issues and submission of recommendations with interaction with Shri Mahendra Nath Pandey, Honorable Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India to understand the vision and way forward and how the industry can participate and support the skills ecosystem. The workshop and interaction were to identify the gaps and challenges, ideate on solutions and how Industry being the recipient of the talent pool can play a greater role in the skills ecosystem.
Mr. Winny Rawal, Head – Transnational Education & Industry Interface, Rustomjee Academy for Global Careers, led one of the Break-Out Session “Issues and Challenges faced by the Training Providers and suggested solutions”. The session focused on how we attract more suitable youth that can be trained and retained by Industry, challenges in placement and challenges faced and practical solutions to the same.
The world has bigger problems than anyone of us can imagine. It’s normal to think that such problems are beyond our control and you yourself cannot make a difference.
Certainly, one person cannot solve problems of the entire world. However, one thing you can do is to INSPIRE.
Be the change you wish to see in the world. Take a step towards betterment of others lives and your actions will inspire others to do the same.
Give away clothes you don’t wear, donate books to the library, give blankets to people living on the streets. Do not waste food. Help people in crisis. You can spare a few hours from your daily schedule and spend time with old age home people, read to the blinds, teach underprivileged children.
Carry your trash with you. Dispose of it in a trash can. Keep your house clean, keep your city clean, keep your country clean. It is every person’s responsibility. Just because a street is already dirty, you don’t have to make it dirtier.
Reduce Reuse Recycle
Well, this goes without saying. Try to recycle anything you can. You will be helping the environment a lot and in turn, you are helping yourself. Reduce the amount of plastic and other non-degradable waste you generate. Become as eco-friendly as possible. Always take a carry bag with you when you go shopping.
A smile can go a long way. Make people around you happy, people make up the world. Smiling at a stranger can make both you and them feel better. Being smiled at works the same way.
To make the world you inhabit a better place, you should first make the body you live in a better place. Avoid junk food, exercise at least thrice a week, and spend time with nature. Drink a lot of water and breathe deeply whenever you can. These things do wonders for your body and mind, and will make you want to care about all of the other mentioned things.
